How Middlesex made history

It’s thought that Middlesex dates to the early 10th century. More recently, it has been absorbed by neighbouring counties or into Greater London.

Although Middlesex no longer exists officially, many clubs and establishments still use its name.

Middlesex once stretched from Potters Bar in the north to Sunbury-on-Thames in the south, taking in districts like Harrow, Ealing and Feltham.

Economically, Middlesex depended on London, becoming more urbanised over the years. The county also developed into a significant location for the film industry. Twickenham Studios opened in 1913, followed by others nearby, like Isleworth and Kew.

Built in 1906, Middlesex Guildhall is home to the UK’s Supreme Court.
